PREP-KC KCT School Visits
School Visit Reports
Between November and January, each participant is required to complete a school visit with their capstone team. School visits will include a conversation with the school leadership team, students in the pathways, tour of the school, and classroom observations. During the February KCT session, teams will present their findings. These 10-minute PowerPoint presentations should give a high-level overview of the school visit and answer two questions: (1) What new learning about education and/or schooling did your experience provide? (2) What challenges, needs, or volunteer opportunities were evidenced or discussed as a result of your school visits?
School Career Pathways
Aligned with KC Risings’ goal of inclusive prosperity, PREP-KC works with Kansas City’s school districts and charter schools that serve primarily students of color and students impacted by poverty to support the development of wall-to-wall career pathways to help all students gain the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in Kansas City’s high-need, high-pay careers.
Students in PREP-KC's partner-schools have the opportunity to select a career pathway in 9th or 10th grade. Examples of these broad career pathways include Business and Finance, Engineering, LifeScience/Healthcare, and Tech. Students enroll in a series of elective courses in their pathway with the goal of ultimately earning a “Market Value Asset” (such as an industry-recognized credential, early college credit, internship/ client project, or high-value scholarship) by the time they graduate.
To help students make an informed decision, PREP-KC designs and implements a wide range of college & career exploration experiences to support all students (3rd grade - HS) in identifying their goals for college and career after high school graduation.
